Field Guide : Anna's Hummingbird (Male)
Field Guide : Anna's Hummingbird (Male)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
When I first moved west and encountered Anna’s hummingbirds, I thought of them as western riffs on ruby-throated hummingbirds, the principal hummer species of my mid-Atlantic youth. Soon, though, I noted some obvious differences. Anna’s and ruby-throated males both “flash” iridescent “reds,” but the brilliant scarlet-orange of the latter species is, as its common name suggests, confined to the throat. Anna’s males rock full headdresses, and they’re not exactly red, either – more of a dazzling magenta and rose. Just look at the richness of the color column; no wonder so many people describe these diminutive birds as flying gemstones!
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
