Field Guide : Belted Kingfisher (Female)
Field Guide : Belted Kingfisher (Female)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
Most of my powerful sense memories involve time spent on or near the water. Whenever I hear the ecstatic rattle of a belted kingfisher, I’m for a moment transported to the western bank of our farm’s largest pond. Whether there to cast for largemouth bass, help my father set or check muskrat traps, or watch the damselflies zip about, the kingfisher’s call always demanded full attention. I’d stop whatever I was doing to gawk at the bird with the outsized head and bill. “Gawking” has a negative connotation, but being dumbstruck is a form of awe or admiration. Indeed, each time I hear the call, I’m whisked through time and space to a Locustville, Virginia, of yesteryear, but I’m also humbled and reminded of how lucky I am to be wherever I am at that moment, heeding the kingfisher’s call.
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
