Field Guide : Eastern Bluebird (Male)
Field Guide : Eastern Bluebird (Male)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
The Eastern bluebird’s scientific name, Sialia sialis, translates as “birdy bird.” It’s not the most descriptive taxonomic binomial, but it can’t be faulted for inaccuracy. 😂 As a child in the 1980s, I helped build or install a great many “birdy bird” nesting boxes in the rural Virginia county where I was raised. Following substantial population declines of bluebirds and wood ducks in the 1960s and 70s, the two species were the beneficiaries of robust nesting box programs that continue today. All those boxes raised (and maintained) made a difference; both the eastern bluebird and wood duck have experienced remarkable recoveries.
All three North American bluebird species (Eastern, Mountain, and Western) are predominantly blue, but they exhibit subtle differences that are especially interesting to consider in the Field Guide color column format.
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
