Field Guide : Heermann's Gull
Field Guide : Heermann's Gull
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
Let me introduce one of the West Coast’s finest dressers: an Heermann’s gull in breeding plumage. This incredibly attractive bird wears a suit of warm greys, cool slates, coals, and storm cloud darks. At the neck, the grey subtly transitions into a bright white. The fire-engine-red bill is the cherry on top.
The Heermann’s gull doesn’t don this enviable night-on-the-town outfit to party, though. They’re beautiful bandits, dressed to the nines to steal fish, crustaceans, and other tasty treats from brown pelicans, boobies, terns, and other birds. The word biologists use to describe such behavior is kleptoparasitism, making the Heermann’s gull one fine looking kleptoparasite. 🦹♀️❤️🔥
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
