Field Guide : Lesser Goldfinch (Western Male)
Field Guide : Lesser Goldfinch (Western Male)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
The plumage of the lesser goldfinch differs rather dramatically across regional populations. In this poster, we see the western, “green-backed” outfit that males wear in my California backyard. Were I to encounter a flock in a Texas yard, at the eastern edge of their geographic range, that olive green (the third most dominant color block on western birds) would be replaced by more black; in fact, black would dominate the color column and the goldfinch yellow would appear beneath it. I guess I have to create a poster for the eastern, “black-backed” morph or ecotype! (Update: I did!)
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
