Field Guide : Pink Robin (Female)
Field Guide : Pink Robin (Female)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
Although she lacks the cotton candy punch of her male counterpart, the female pink robin is often described as “pinkish” or having “a subtle pinkish tint.” As always, in order to create the color column, I carefully examined many photos of the bird in various lighting situations and I’d say those descriptions are accurate if you emphasize the word “subtle.” Her greys are warm, though, and the word cinereous comes to mind; it means ashy grey, but is usually associated with especially warm greys, as if seen through a gauzy pink photo filter.
Although she doesn’t stand out alongside her mate, her handiwork certainly does. The female pink robin builds an elaborate, cup-shaped nest using bark, moss, lichen, and spider web, and she lines the deep nest interior with fur, feathers, and ferns. It resembles a scaled-up hummingbird nest. She does all of the brooding herself, although the male pink robin will assist with feeding the chicks.
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
