Field Guide : Spotted Towhee (Male)
Field Guide : Spotted Towhee (Male)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
The spotted towhee is often described as a three-colored bird – black, white, and rusty brown – but it’s a fourth color, the brilliant red of the towhee’s iris, that people often remember. Depicted as part of a color column, however, the towhee’s red eye pop is easily overlooked; it’s a mere sliver positioned at the column’s base (because it accounts for the smallest percentage of color observed). Moreover, removed from the context of the bird’s black head, the red is revealed to be more of a Golden Gate orange. As any designer or judge will tell you, context matters.
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
