Field Guide : Violet-green Swallow (Male)
Field Guide : Violet-green Swallow (Male)
Unlimited edition. 18 x 24 inch, museum-quality poster on matte paper.
During the spring and summer months, violet-green swallows congregate at a neighborhood horse paddock. They swoop and bank over perennial grasses and coyote brush in pursuit of insects they gobble on the wing. The gregarious birds “cheep” and “chee-chee” to one another in between beakfuls. If you keep your eyes on them as they perform their aerial ballet, you’ll see it – a remarkable pop of aquamarine, emerald green, purple, and violet when the sun hits them just so. The birds’ scientific binomial translates as “fast-moving thing from the sea,” and although the swallows aren’t ocean-going birds, watching these flying jewels “school” after insects over the pasture calls to mind marine predators swirling on a bait ball.
Note: These archival poster prints feature rich, appealing colors. I encourage customers to take care in handling them until they are framed/protected for display; the darker colors on the matte paper can be scratched. They ship rolled, so customers need to flatten them before framing (or have their framer do so).
Charitable Sales Model: Whenever one of these poster prints is purchased, a charitable contribution equal to 10% of the print’s cost (or $3.60) is made to a nonprofit working to tackle environmental or social challenges. Read more about my charitable sales model here.
